After a dismal 2025 season for the Chicago Sky – one marked by internal strife, criticism, and playoff disappointment – General Manager Jeff Pagliocca is making it clear he expects star forward Angel Reese to stay with the team next year.
Reese, 22, missed the Sky’s final two games of the season officially due to a back injury. Her absence came on the heels of a half-game suspension handed down after she publicly criticized the organization. The interview that drew the club’s ire came as tensions over the team’s roster moves and performance boiled over.
Despite the conflict, Pagliocca emphasized that, from his perspective, the chapter is closing. “We closed the chapter on it,” he said. He noted that Reese has apologized to her teammates and the team has worked to move forward.
The GM also pointed out Reese’s strong individual performance this season. She averaged 14.7 points and 12.6 rebounds per game, leading the WNBA in rebounds per game and compiling 23 double-doubles in 30 games played.
Still, the season was grim overall. The Sky, after finishing 10-34, ended with the worst record in the league. It was their second straight season missing the playoffs, and pressure is mounting on the front office and coaching staff to rebuild.
Pagliocca acknowledged that changes are coming. With no 2026 first-round pick (having traded it previously), building around Reese – assuming she remains – will require shrewd moves.
