Oh, Mama Bluter. Lisa Bluter had some explosive words in an interview in regards to Caitlyn Clark. This is major. This just proves exactly why Stephanie White is not the coach for Caitlyn Clark. We have all voiced our concerns in a major way. We watched a lot of the nonsense that Stephanie White pulled with Caitlyn Clark last season.
She came in here and completely messed up the offense. Brought in a bunch of vets. Natasha Howard’s talking about winning MVP. DeWanna Bonner showed up and scammed the team. She had Aliyah Boston playing point guard. Caitlyn Clark playing small forward. Mama Bluter addressed what needs to happen for Caitlyn Clark and she pretty much exposed why Stephanie White is not the coach for her.
We got to break this thing down. That would be greatly appreciated. Let’s get right off into things. Another one. So, Lisa Bluter, we miss you. THAT I LIKE. CAN WE JUST start right there? Lisa Bluter, Mama Bluter, we miss you.
We wish you would just come out of retirement and coach the Indiana Fever. That would save all of us a lot of strife, a lot of headache, a lot of stress. If we had Lisa Bluter in the head coaching seat, we wouldn’t have to worry about a lot of this nonsense that has been going down with this team. Now, she took to this podcast.
Treat Media. She was on Treat Media and she addressed the situation with Caitlyn Clark and how you have to allow her to play. And this ultimately shows why this whole situation with Stephanie White has been doomed from the start.
Let’s take a listen. Do you think is what I’m so curious about this because coaches have such a unique insight into the mind, the talent and the physicality like you see them on such a personal level on a day-to-day basis. What is the thing with her that is the difference maker that’s the differentiator that can put her into the stratosphere that she’s earned?
She’s an unbelievable competitor and I don’t care what you’re playing like and she was a great soccer player and she really >> Oh, I’ve heard that. >> Yeah. And she attributes a lot of her passing angles to learning that on the soccer field and it’s so true. Like she is the best every time, you know, three-point shooting. She is the best passer. It’s amazing.
We all know Caitlyn Clark is the best passer in the WNBA. Came in and broke the assist record. All types of stuff. We all know that like her passing is one of one. Magic Johnson level passing here.
And so she attributes a lot of that to soccer, but competitiveness like I don’t care if you’re playing checkers, if you’re playing Uno. The girl is going to win and she has no fear of failure.
Now that pay attention to this. She said Caitlyn has no fear of failure. And watch what she says after. The girl is going to win and she has no fear of failure. And that I think allows her to really put herself out there and risk like with those threes and with some of those unbelievable passes that other people be like, I might fail. There’s none of that with her.
And then she works her butt off. Quite honestly. Did you hear that? Caitlyn Clark is not afraid of risk. She is not afraid to fail. Stephanie White’s the complete opposite. This was doomed from the start. Stephanie White wants a slow game where she can control the game from the sideline.
Caitlyn Clark is up and down, up and down, up and down. Stephanie White doesn’t even feel comfortable with that. You heard Lisa Bluter say you got to live with she’s going to pull up some bombs. She’s going to thread the needle with some passes, but you have to let Caitlyn be Caitlyn in order for the greatness to come out. And you will reap the benefits as Lisa Bluter in Iowa did.
It’s that simple. But Stephanie White wants this slow drag them out game half court. Let me control the game from the sideline like this is college. And that is not what Caitlyn Clark is. And Lisa Bluter pretty much just explained this thing was doomed from the start.
Honestly, I mean, the kid works. She’s in the gym. She takes care of all the things mentally as well as physically. She’s learned how to do that, take care of her body. First you didn’t maybe eat the best. She’s better at all those things now.
As she’s rising and you’re seeing this cultural shift. I know, coach, you’re such a big proponent, which is why we love you, of team culture and chemistry and how did you balance all that? And maybe she I’ve heard stories of Caitlyn being very engaged in that as well, like recognizing that I’ve got to also shine some light on my teammates.
Yeah. And she didn’t understand that at first. And that was one of the things we really had to work on was because you and I don’t blame her. She comes from a high school where she did everything. She came from an AAU program where she did everything and now she’s expected to come to a university and share the wealth.
It’s different, right? And it’s a mindset that’s got to change a little bit. So, we really worked hard on that and we tried to explain to our players, listen, when her light shines, it shines on all of us and we’re all going to have more opportunities because of her.
When her light shines, it shines on all of us. Ask Sophie Cunningham. Wasn’t nobody checking for Sophie Cunningham prior to Caitlyn Clark. Let’s keep it real. Ask Lexie Hull. Wasn’t nobody checking for Lexie Hull prior to Caitlyn Clark.
Listen, when you play the Caitlyn Clark system, when you play your role as you’re supposed to, the light is going to shine on you as well. And you are going to reap the benefits. You’re going to shine. You’re going to win. It’s going to be electrifying and exciting. You just got to play your role.
And that is the problem with Stephanie White and some of the people we brought in is that it seems like they don’t understand the role that they need to play in this. I know there’s been a lot going on with Kelsey Mitchell. I mean I know Kelsey Mitchell, she could be a ball hog sometimes. She wants to get her shots up, but we didn’t have a problem with Kelsey in that post Olympic break run because she was playing her role. Stephanie White came in and messed it all up. She messed it all up.
More opportunities because of her. And so we really had a lot of frank open conversations about this stuff and we did it all the time. It wasn’t like a one-time thing, one time, okay, let’s have a little seminar on culture building. We believed in it and we did culture building every day.
We did team meetings every week where we really dove into like kids and what made them tick and how do you hold your teammates accountable and how are you and people hold you accountable? How do you act? So all those things are so important to culture building and we did a ton of it.
I was telling Abby the story that one of the things we did was actually read her book Wolfpack which was amazing and so I have this thing where after shootaround on game days I always sit everybody around our circle and we talk about different issues women’s issues it could be political it could anything you know it could be racial it could be anything that’s going on in the media right now
We’re going to but also so let’s, you know, how do we get motivated for this game? So anyway, and Wolfpack was one year where we read that and we just read a little a chapter every time or part of a chapter and then we discussed it as a team and that got us through the 2019 year we went to the Elite 8.
You see what I’m saying? You see what I’m saying, man? Like man, Lisa Bluter, we love you. We love you, Lisa Bluter. I just wish you would come out of retirement. Stephanie White has no idea what she is doing. All you got to do is listen to what Lisa Bluter said and it’s the complete opposite of what Stephanie White wants done with this team.
