So, I think as a Fever fan, Fever channel, we should just give up on any hope for Azer Stevens. And unfortunately, not only is Azurá probably not signing for the Fever, she is probably going to go to a team that might actually become rivals again with the Fever, the Chicago Sky.
A lot of signs are pointing to the Chicago Sky or the Dallas Wings. So, Azer Stevens posted four pictures in free agency: the Fever, the Wings, the Sparks, and the Sky. The odds of Azeret ending up on the Sparks are low purely because they don’t have the money. The Wings and Fever or Wings and Sky have more money to give to Azer Stevens.
They can give Azer a decent chunk of money. They can. So they’re able to get paid, but the Fever should give Azer the best chance of winning. The problem is I don’t know if the Indiana Fever are even looking for Azure. I think they were going to run it back with Natasha Howard because I mean this when I say this, if you guys don’t know, the Indiana Fever’s worst player last season based on every single stat was Deir Stantis. She was genuinely terrible.
Like she was by a lot the worst player on the Indiana Fever. So we’re talking about Deir Stantis here as the worst defender and the worst offensive player for the Indiana Fever last year. And we’re talking about her in a way that actually sorry she wasn’t as bad offensively as Brie Turner, second worst offensive player and she was the worst defender.
We’ve got that Demir Dantis and the first signing that they’re making back that has been announced is that they’re bringing back their worst player from last season. So you better believe that the Indiana Fever signing Demir’s Dantis means they’re very likely going to probably run it back with Natasha Howard.
There are so many better players that you can get on a minimum contract than Deir Stantis. There are so many better backup centers than Demir Stantis you can get for cheap. Way better. So clearly obviously having Deir Stantis in there as their backup center means that they’re happy with their team. They’re going to run it back.
And people being like, “Oh, this team made the playoffs. Dantis didn’t even play in the playoffs. Dantis had a concussion. She didn’t play one minute of the playoffs. Like she didn’t even play in the playoffs. She was terrible. Like she shot like 11 until two games to go which were dead rubbers where the other teams were just not even trying as a Fever.
Deir Stantis shot 12% from three from the time she came back from America. She went on like a 20 game run last year or a near 20 game run shooting like 12% from three. It was mad. There was a spell where she was two for 29 from three. Two for 29 her last 29.
But now obviously Azere is who we want, who the Fever fans would love to have. But it makes too much sense for her to go to Chicago. It makes too much sense. First of all, Chicago can pay her more. Secondly, people like, “Oh, but like no one wants to live in Chicago.” There’s going to be a million reasons to want to live in Chicago.
I will say that secondly, her relationship with Courtney Vanderloot. Like a lot of the thing people are talking about, oh, Courtney Vanderloot, they want to keep her. This is a picture yesterday she posted with Courtney Vanderloot and Ali Quigley’s kid. And obviously, I don’t know why I was like, “Oh, she’s in Chicago right now.” I’m like, “No, this is literally Christmas.
I can’t believe I missed the Christmas tree.” But this was her in Chicago over Christmas and it was her first teams. She won a championship in Chicago. Sloot’s going to be there. I would say there’s probably going to be some involvement. There might be some slight involvement in the organization with Ali Quigley.
They’re part of the furniture in the organization. Long-term, the likelihood is that Sloot is probably going to play out this season and then fade into the background as an assistant coach and then maybe even go straight in as a head coach to pull a Jason Kidd. She’s going to end up being involved there and Rokia’s there.
Like Rakia and Azere were very close for the LA Sparks. So Rakia is there. You’ve got Sloot as a teammate. She’s won a championship there. And I get it. The Chicago Sky don’t have the nicest facility. They don’t put the players in the nicest places.
That makes a difference when you’re making 70k a year. When you’re making $1 million a year, you do what you do. And not only that, it is literally in the CBA that whatever rec center the Chicago Sky are using, they have to basically build them their own locker room. They have to have exclusive use of the court whenever it is.
So it’s like, and they’re not the only team that doesn’t have their own practice facility. Yes, their practice facility is in the middle of nowhere. Yes, it’s a little bit annoying. But for five months a year, if you’re making a million dollars, you will deal with that.
And people like, “Oh, Chicago Sky will never be able to succeed with that.” I mean, look, they’ve won a championship with it. Azer was on that team.
I think the Azure to the Indiana Fever position is nearly done because I think Natasha Howard is going to end up back in the Fever. I think Natasha Howard will end up back with the Fever this year. So I don’t have a clue what is happening to be honest, but it’s looking very much like that.
I have heard some rumblings of other not good stuff about the Indiana Fever. What’s going on. I’ve heard and I don’t want to say who’s told me. I don’t want to say who it’s even about. But we do know that Lexi Hall is currently having meetings with teams about RFA and all she has to do is go by the way if a team’s willing to give Bridget a car 1.4 million an expansion team.
An expansion team will be willing to give Lexi Hall 700K. And if Lexi Hall makes 700K, if Fever can’t afford it, if Fever can’t afford an Azer, if they want to bring back in Lexi Hall, an Azure is going to cost more than Natasha Howard.
And I don’t know. The reality is with everything is that the only hope of getting Azer Stevens or a player of Azer Stevens caliber for the Fever is purely if the Kelsey Mitchell signing trade happens. I hope I don’t know if I want it to happen or not. I actually don’t. I would love to see Kelsey Mitchell there on the team with that epic role of screwed over the Fever.
But yeah, I’m not hearing good news about the Indiana Fever. I’m not hearing good news at all. And it does not seem to be working out well. And Azure, go get your bag in Chicago. That’s all I’m going to say. Go get your bag in Chicago.
But for the Chicago Sky, if they do get Azer Stevens, like I’m sorry, they have they’re going to run with a team of Sloot max contract, Rakia, Azere, and Cardoso with a bench of probably Flaw and whoever else they’re going to be able to bring in.
Michaela Onyenwere seems to like it there. Elizabeth Williams seems to like it there. They might. They’re two solid bench players and I could see the Chicago Sky scraping into the playoffs next year.
I really could. I could see them scraping into the playoffs if they pull off Azure and get a good two guard and a good contract and even an overpay for Aja. They just become a team of dogs. They just have the length. It’s not that they’re the best defenders in the world as is Cardoso, but when you just have that length you can do something on defense with that.
