The Indiana Fever finally got their first win of the season… but wow, this game was way more chaotic than it should’ve been. And honestly? If not for Caitlin Clark completely taking over the floor, this could’ve turned into another disaster for Indiana. Because while the final score says the Fever won by nine, anybody who actually watched this game knows the Sparks had this thing getting dangerously close late in the fourth quarter. And for a minute there, you could feel the panic creeping back in. Fans were sitting there thinking, “Wait… are they really about to blow this too?”
But then Caitlin Clark happened.
Again.
And this is what’s becoming scary about her game. Even when the three-point shot is not falling the way people expect, she still controls everything. That’s the part casual fans don’t fully understand yet. Everybody is obsessed with the logo threes and the deep pull-ups, but Caitlin Clark is becoming a complete floor general right in front of everybody’s eyes. She finished with 24 points, 9 assists, and 4 rebounds, and honestly, she probably should’ve had close to 16 assists if her teammates could simply finish easy layups. Like seriously… how many perfect passes can one player create in a single game?
The vision was ridiculous. Backdoor dimes. Transition lasers. No-look setups. Cross-court passes right into shooting pockets. It felt like every possession she was creating something dangerous. And the crazy thing? She still doesn’t even look fully comfortable yet. Her off-the-dribble three hasn’t arrived this season. That signature shot that sends crowds into chaos? It’s not there right now. But she’s still dominating games anyway. That should terrify the rest of the league.
Because think about it. Against Dallas, she dropped 20 while struggling from deep. Tonight, she goes for 24 while shooting just one of seven from three. If even two more of those shots fall? Suddenly we’re talking about a 30-point explosion. And you can feel it coming. Every defense knows it too. The second that jumper starts clicking consistently again, these games are going to get ugly fast.
And yet somehow, despite Clark orchestrating everything beautifully, the Fever still made this game harder than it needed to be. That fourth-quarter collapse almost gave fans heart attacks. The Sparks looked dead for most of the night, then suddenly Kelsey Plum catches fire and starts turning the game into chaos. And you just knew Indiana fans were sitting there nervous because they’ve seen this movie before. One run. One momentum swing. One stretch of bad basketball. And suddenly the pressure gets real.
But while Clark was doing everything possible to keep the offense flowing, there were still some frustrating performances mixed in. Aaliyah Boston had a rough night. There’s really no sugarcoating it. Zero points in the first half, foul trouble all game, and she never looked fully comfortable offensively. And honestly, people are starting to ask questions about how she’s being used in this offense. Why does it feel like she’s constantly floating around the perimeter instead of dominating inside? Why aren’t they feeding her in the post more consistently? It just feels weird sometimes. Like Indiana still hasn’t figured out the best version of this offense yet.
Then there’s Kelsey Mitchell. And man… this conversation is going to divide fans.
Because look, Kelsey Mitchell can absolutely score. Nobody’s denying that. When she gets hot, she’s one of the fastest microwave scorers in the league. She finished with 23 points and hit some massive shots. But here’s the thing people are noticing more and more — once the ball touches her hands, the possession usually ends there. No rebounds. No assists. No playmaking. Just buckets. And while scoring matters, fans are starting to wonder if that style fits perfectly next to someone like Caitlin Clark, who’s trying to create for everybody.
There were moments where Clark was clearly trying to run the offense, moving the defense around, manipulating help defenders… and then the ball swings to Mitchell and immediately turns into isolation basketball. And you could almost hear fans yelling at their screens like, “Pass it back!” But that’s just who she is as a player. She’s hunting shots. She’s hunting buckets. And to be fair, she’s really good at it. But when those shots stop falling? That’s where the criticism gets louder because Clark impacts the game in so many other ways even on an off shooting night.
Still, there were positives everywhere too. Sophie Cunningham brought energy all night long. Twelve points, seven rebounds, tough defense, hustle plays — she was flying around the floor making winning plays. Monique Billings also made a really strong impression in her debut. Nine points, eight rebounds, active defense, and most importantly? The second she grabbed rebounds, she immediately looked for Caitlin Clark to push the pace. That matters. Fans notice that chemistry instantly.
And honestly, you can already see the difference in how certain players operate around Clark. Some players naturally understand how dangerous she is in transition. Others still seem hesitant to fully give her control. That’s going to be one of the biggest storylines all season long. How quickly can Indiana fully commit to running through Caitlin Clark every possession? Because when they do, the offense looks explosive.
Meanwhile, the Sparks honestly look rough right now outside of Kelsey Plum and Dearica Hamby. Plum tried to drag them back into the game almost by herself with 25 points and a huge fourth quarter, but the roster just feels disconnected. The spacing looks off. The defense collapses too easily. And there were long stretches where Indiana completely controlled the tempo.
But again… the biggest takeaway from this game is Caitlin Clark. Not just the numbers. Not just the highlights. The control. The pace. The confidence. The way every possession feels alive when she has the ball. Even when she isn’t shooting well from deep, she still looks like the most dangerous player on the court. That says everything.
And now the scary part for the rest of the WNBA? She still hasn’t fully exploded yet.
That signature shooting performance is coming. The deep pull-ups are coming. The logo threes are coming. And once they do, these near triple-doubles are going to turn into complete takeovers. Indiana got the win they desperately needed, but fans know there’s still another level this team can reach. The question is… how long until Caitlin Clark unlocks it completely?
Because if this is her before the three-point shot returns… what happens when she finally catches fire?
Let me know what you think. Is Caitlin Clark already the best player in the WNBA right now? And do you think Kelsey Mitchell’s playstyle actually helps or hurts the Fever offense long term? Drop your thoughts in the comments and let’s talk about it.
