So, in a weird situation, and by weird I mean because we never heard anything about it. From what we saw, she’s been practicing. Again, not entirely sure. I’m not going to go out and say for a fact that she’s okay and they’re hiding her, but Justine Pissott is now currently out for the Indiana Fever versus Dallas.
And this is one of those things where I’m like, this is kind of a weird scenario because Stephanie White was asked about players that were hurt and she mentioned these three at the end of practice and nothing about Justine Pissott.
Very clearly, she was asked about players being hurt and basically said they’re holding players out for precaution. Again, the hope is Justine Pissott is actually hurt because if they’re holding Justine Pissott out for precaution, that’s a really bad look on the Indiana Fever because it’s basically holding her out of her Super Bowl for game seven.
I’m saying, “Oh, it’s only preseason,” but when you’re in a developmental slot, realistically it is your Super Bowl. It is your Super Bowl going out there and playing in these games because there is a massive financial incentive to make a roster versus a developmental squad because the Indiana Fever is probably the least anyone wants to be on a developmental contract because it is the one team who has basically said they’re not going to call up a developmental player.
I’m just going to see, has she been seen here if this was today. Was this today? Caitlin Clark warms up. Yes, this was today. Is Justine Pissott here? No, it’s just KK and some shooters.
That’s the thing where it’s like if she’s in street clothes, it’s like, okay, yeah, she’s hurt. If she’s not in street clothes, that’s a really bad look on the Fever. Not that I hope she’s hurt. I hope they’re not just holding her out for precaution. I really do.
But after what the Indiana Fever did in the preseason game, holding her out for precaution could very well be that because let’s be real, the Indiana Fever were running their third stringers at the end of the game versus the third stringers for the Liberty.
Justine Pissott nails two three-pointers in a row and immediately Justine Pissott is pulled. She gets pulled the second she hits two three-pointers in a row. Why? It’s very clear the Fever are hiding her in that game because if she goes and hits four for four from three, the Fever are then stuck with a choice. Do they let her leave or do they sign her?
They’re stuck with that if she goes four for four from three, but she didn’t. She went two for two and it is a “we’re going to try hide her.”
Still with these three players here, I wonder how bad Ty Harris’s situation is. And for Lexie Hull, I understand it’s only preseason, but did DeWanna Bonner lose their starting spot because of preseason?
Lexie Hull could very well be somebody whose minutes are taken by Raven Johnson. Raven Johnson taking Lexie Hull’s minutes is not crazy because again, if the two of them put their hands up in the air, it’s very, very close.
And if Lexie’s not shooting the ball, I think it could be a very interesting situation because the better defender is Raven Johnson, the better passer is Raven Johnson, the better decision maker is Raven Johnson, the better ball handler is Raven Johnson. The better rebounder is Lexie Hull, but it’s one of those things where you’ve got only one real aspect of basketball there.
It could turn out when it’s all said and done that the Lexie Hull money could be one of the contracts that kind of — I’m not going to say could screw over the Fever — but it’s like I don’t know how many minutes she’s going to play. I really don’t.
But the one thing I will say is that when it comes to Pissott, there’s been no training camp footage of her being there today, which could be a bit of a disaster because it was yesterday she was saying that she wanted to make a roster. It was one day ago and obviously wasn’t there today.
So, not an ideal situation. And if you’re the Indiana Fever, you’re probably like “ka-ching” because I’m being real here. The Indiana Fever absolutely want to keep Justine Pissott next year. There is no question about that. The Indiana Fever for 2027 want to keep Justine Pissott.
They also don’t want Justine Pissott this year. They want an ideal scenario where nobody else signs her and they are able to sign her to a rookie scale deal and it starts next year.
By the way, if she lasts the year as a developmental player and doesn’t play any games, her rookie scale deal starts next year. So they have four more years of her on the minimum. It’s basically a redshirt year.
And that’s one of those things where if you’re the Fever, it’s an ideal situation. It makes perfect sense.
But yeah, I’m still trying to see if I can find her. I don’t know if she’s even in the footage for today. And that is another concern because she’s not even in the footage from training camp today.
So that is actually genuinely a concern. I think she’s actually hurt. I don’t think they’re sitting her out. It doesn’t look like that.
So, it doesn’t seem like a good situation that Justine Pissott is hurt. That being said, on a personal level for Justine Pissott, it is a disaster because these next two games are her Super Bowls. These next two games are absolutely her Super Bowls.
But for the Indiana Fever, this is exactly what you want. A player in Justine Pissott who does have long-term upside not being signed by somebody else.
And for the Indiana Fever, they’re probably delighted. Not delighted someone got hurt, but if this is like a minor injury and she’s out for 10 days because she did have her leg kind of taped up, if this is one of these injuries where you’re out for 10 days, the Indiana Fever are probably like, “You know what, great. We can keep her on a developmental deal. People probably aren’t going to look for her now. They’re going to look for other players.”
And yeah, I’d say they’ll be a little bit happy.
But anyway, that is the video. I’m going to go watch the Sky play against the Dream and I will report on that afterwards. I’ll see you guys.
