So, I am completely bamboozled. I got no idea. I have no idea what’s going on here. No idea at all. I don’t know what the Fever is trying to do. I really don’t. And if you guys are new to the channel, you’re as confused as I am with this because I have no idea what they’re trying to do because the Indiana Fever as currently constructed.
So you want to put size, athleticism, shooting, those type of things. That’s kind of what you want to put around Caitlyn Clark. Like I think we’re all kind of in agreement. That’s really what you want to put around Caitlyn Clark. But the Fever have put no size, very little athleticism, not that much shooting, and yeah, it doesn’t… what are they doing?
They’ve just signed Walker Kimbro, a genuinely not great guard. I don’t know how to describe it because she averaged 1.7 points per game last year. She is statistically one of the least impactful players in the WNBA. She shoots okay from three, I guess, pretty bad from the field, is a pure bench player, and is 5’9″.
Then Kelsey Mitchell shoots. I guess she’s fast. Raven Johnson can’t really shoot. Justine Pao’s probably going to get cut. Jessica Timpson is probably going to get cut. Aliyah Boston’s a bit of size. Then we’ve got guard depth with one of the worst players in the league last year, should not be in the league, Caitlyn, shout out Monique Billings and Ty Harris I guess, and it’s Walker Kimbro.
I don’t get it. And then obviously Megan McConnell is not that much of a scorer. Like I actually don’t understand what they’re doing. I really don’t.
Are they planning to trade Caitlyn Clark or something? Are they assuming Caitlyn Clark’s going to get injured again? If that’s the case, then would you not just trade Caitlyn Clark?
This is one of these things where it actually doesn’t make sense. Are they going to trade Kelsey Mitchell mid-season? Are they going to trade Caitlyn Clark before the end of a rookie deal? Because with Walker Kimbro by the sounds of things with the Indiana Fever, this is not a training camp contract. This is like a full roster spot.
Are they going to cut Raven Johnson? Where are the minutes for? We were already questioning where the minutes for Raven Johnson were going to come from, but where exactly are the minutes for Walker Kimbro going to come from?
Is Caitlyn Clark going to play power forward or something? If Aliyah gets injured, I don’t know what happens. It is literally now a situation where I don’t know exactly what the Indiana Fever are doing this season. I really don’t.
People say we saw what happened last season when they didn’t have enough guard depth, but Sophie Cunningham and Lexie Hull are guard depth. They are guard depth. They’re also wing depth. Let’s be real, the two and the three is the same position. It is the exact same position in general.
So you’ve realistically got two players that basically play the same position in Sophie and Lexie, and then Walker Kimbro for no reason.
And then Lynn Dunn is like she’s a WNBA champion. I’m like okay yeah she was a WNBA champion in 2019.
Do you know who else was a champion in 2019? Patrick McCaw. Do you know who made an All-NBA team in 2019? Blake Griffin. Blake Griffin retired four years ago.
I just want to check All-WNBA teams to see who made the All-WNBA teams in 2019, because this is going to sum it up.
So when these guys were champions, the MVP was Elena Delle Donne, Courtney Vandersloot made the All-WNBA First Team.
Do you know who else made the All-WNBA First Team in 2019? Natasha Howard. Natasha Howard made the All-WNBA First Team in 2019, the year that Walker Kimbro won a championship.
As well as that, with Myisha Hines-Allen, she made the All-WNBA Second Team the following year.
We’re now at a stage where it just doesn’t really make sense. None of this makes sense. None of any of this makes sense.
What type of a roster is this? Genuinely, what type of a roster are they putting together?
They’re putting together a roster to survive without Caitlyn Clark. That seems to be what it is.
It’s now literally Caitlyn because Caitlyn’s going to play. How many minutes can Caitlyn play now? Unless you want to give Walker Kimbro or Raven Johnson DNPs, which I don’t think they’re going to do.
Caitlyn’s minutes might start with a two. I’m okay with Caitlyn not playing the 36 or 37 minutes she played in her rookie season, but her numbers could vary. Her minutes could start with a two, as could Kelsey Mitchell’s.
Their minutes could literally start with a two.
For me that seems very, very not smart from the Fever’s perspective because I understand the Indiana Fever could need depth when it comes to the playoffs, but they need to get to the playoffs first.
I understand the vast majority of fans, rightfully so, think the Indiana Fever are going to make the playoffs, as do I. But to act like it is a complete formality that the Indiana Fever are going to make the playoffs is wrong.
First of all, they’re an injury away from not even having a team competitive enough to make it.
But are they better than the Sky? Yes, but not by that much. It is not a formality that this team makes the playoffs.
It is an extreme likelihood, like in the 80 to 90% range, but it is not a 100% guarantee that they make the playoffs.
So I’m just looking at this and I’m like, I don’t understand what they’re doing.
It seems like they’re doing everything in their power to be okay when Caitlyn Clark is not there, assuming Caitlyn Clark is going to be injured for the entire season again.
This is a roster that looks like it’s being put together for Caitlyn Clark not to be on it, outside of Monique Billings and the players that they drafted and came before this front office was there, as in Lexie Hull.
I think Sophie Cunningham does fit with Caitlyn in fairness, but Sophie Cunningham fits with anybody.
A lot of these players you’re looking at and asking, are these fit for Caitlyn, or are they to fit when Caitlyn’s off the floor? I don’t know.
And it’s looking like one of the players that I would think would really fit with Caitlyn, Justine Pao, can’t even make the squad.
So yeah, it doesn’t make sense for me. It really doesn’t make sense.
